Solomon Airlines responds to global fuel crisis with temporary network adjustments

SOLOMON Airlines today announced temporary adjustments to its domestic and international flight schedule from April – June 2026 in response to the ongoing global fuel crisis, which has significantly increased operating costs across the airline’s network.

The airline is currently managing a jet fuel cost increase of more than 70% on the domestic network alone placing substantial financial pressure on domestic operations.

As the national carrier committed to maintaining essential connectivity throughout the Solomon Islands, Solomon Airlines has been working to absorb as much of these increased costs as possible. However, the sustained rise in fuel expenses has made it necessary to implement temporary operational changes to ensure the continued viability of the network.

Over the coming months, flight frequencies on selected domestic and some international routes will be temporarily reduced as part of a broader strategy to align capacity with current operating conditions while preserving access to essential air services for communities across the country.

In addition, Solomon Airlines will introduce a temporary domestic fuel levy of AUD10 (approximately SBD 55 per sector), similar to the recently released international fuel surcharge. This surcharge is a measure intended to help offset escalating fuel costs while minimising broader fare increases for customers.

Solomon Airlines acknowledges that these changes may impact travel plans and assures customers that every effort is being made to minimise disruption while maintaining safe and reliable services.

“We understand the importance of air connectivity to our communities, businesses, and the national economy,” said a Solomon Airlines spokesperson. “These decisions have not been made lightly, but they are necessary to ensure the sustainability of our domestic services during this period of unprecedented global fuel volatility.”

The airline will continue to monitor global fuel market conditions and review the temporary measures as circumstances evolve.

Solomon Airlines thanks customers, partners, and the travelling public for their understanding and continued support during this challenging period.
