AIR Niugini is pleased to announce the opening of its new sales office in Wewak, East Sepik Province, yesterday (Thursday, 21 May 2026). The office is strategically located within the newly constructed Tangmow Plaza, a modern, state-of-the-art facility that has quickly become a prominent landmark in the heart of Wewak township.
The new office is spacious and equipped with modern amenities, furniture and technology. It features comfortable customer service areas designed to deliver a convenient, efficient, and seamless experience. Its central location—close to public transport, shops, banks, the main market and other essential services—ensures easy access for customers, making it a one-stop destination for ticketing and travel-related services.
Wewak, the provincial capital of East Sepik, serves as a vital gateway to both cultural heritage and economic opportunity. The region is widely recognised for its rich and vibrant traditions and a robust agricultural sector, particularly the production of premium vanilla, which plays a significant role in the contribution to the local economy. The establishment of the new office is expected to strengthen support for local producers and entrepreneurs by enhancing access to air travel for both passengers and cargo. This will enable more efficient movement of people and goods, while foster business growth and expanding market connectivity.
Air Niugini Chief Executive Officer, Mr Alan Milne during the launch, expressed his enthusiasm for the new facility.
He said “The opening of our new sales office in Wewak demonstrates Air Niugini’s commitment to enhancing access and convenience for our customers. This fully equipped, modern facility offers spacious service areas and is designed to provide a comfortable and efficient customer experience. We are excited to be part of this vibrant community and to support its growth through improved connectivity and services.”
Mr Milne added that the office represents Air Niugini’s flagship presence in the region. Since relocating to the new premises, sales have increased by up to 50 percent compared to the same period last year.
“Wewak is a busy port served by two daily flights—one direct midday service and another in the afternoon that connects Vanimo—so this new sales office will help meet strong travel demand. Its central location, particularly its proximity to public transport and constant power supply, makes it a convenient one-stop shop where customers can purchase tickets and manage their travel needs.” Mr Milne said.
The sales office, which has been operational for the past month, opens from 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday, and from 8:00am to 12:00 noon on Saturdays, providing flexible service hours for customers.
Currely staffed by three team staff members, the facility features up to five service counters dedicated to both retail and corporate customers, including group travel, VIP handling, and government bookings. This expanded capacity is designed to cater for the growing number of individual and corporate clients in the region.
Governor for East Sepik, Hon. Allan Bird, who officiated at the launch, welcomed the development.
He said “Thank you Air Niugini for listening and acting on the people’s concerns. This new office is a significant addition to Wewak and will serve as a catalyst for economic growth in our province. With its prime location and modern facilities, we welcome Air Niugini’s investment and look forward to increased tourism and business opportunities resulting from enhanced air services.”
Air Niugini currently operates two daily services to Boram airport in Wewak, ensuring vital connectivity for business, tourism and residents. Direct flights between Port Moresby and Wewak, PX120 and PX121 operate every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. On Wednesdays, services connect Wewak with Madang and Port Moresby (PX120/PX125), while Sunday services also include Madang (PX124/PX121). The afternoon daily flight PX140 departs at 3:10 PM, allowing passengers to travel onward to Vanimo, where the aircraft remains overnight before it returns the following morning via Wewak and back to Port Moresby.
Air Niugini remains committed to delivering exceptional service and investing in the development of its domestic network. The new sales office at Tangmow Plaza will serve as a vital link for the community, supporting residents and businesses in accessing new opportunities.
