Fiji Airways and Fiji Cancer Society partner to strengthen access to cancer care across Fiji

FIJI Airways and the Fiji Cancer Society have announced a new partnership aimed at improving access to cancer care and support services for communities across Fiji.

The partnership was formally launched today at an event at the Fiji Airways Hangar in Nadi, bringing together Fiji Airways and Fiji Cancer Society representatives, healthcare partners and guests. Attendees heard directly from a participant in the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre programme, who shared their personal experience accessing cancer care and support, a reminder of why the partnership matters.

Through the partnership, Fiji Airways will provide air travel support to assist the Fiji Cancer Society’s work, enabling patients, carers, nurses and programme teams to travel for treatment, outreach programmes and palliative care support.

In a country where distance can create barriers to healthcare, the partnership will help ensure more patients can access the care, expertise and support they need, regardless of location.

The Fiji Cancer Society plays an important role in cancer awareness, education and support services across Fiji, working closely with communities to improve early detection, patient care and access to treatment. Through this partnership, the Society will be able to strengthen its reach and continue delivering critical services to those who need them most.

Alongside travel support, Fiji Airways and the Fiji Cancer Society will also work together on awareness campaigns and community initiatives, including key advocacy events such as Pinktober and Movember, helping raise awareness around cancer prevention, early detection and the importance of support services for patients and families.

Fiji Airways Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Paul Scurrah, said the partnership reflects the airline’s commitment to supporting the wellbeing of communities across Fiji.

“At Fiji Airways, connection and the Fijian community is at the heart of everything we do. Through this partnership with the Fiji Cancer Society, we have an opportunity to support people through some of life’s most difficult journeys by helping improve access to care, treatment and specialist support. We are proud to stand alongside the Society in this important work.”

Fiji Cancer Society Chief Executive Officer, Belinda Chan, said the partnership addressed one of the biggest challenges facing the organisation.

"For the Fiji Cancer Society, access has always been one of our biggest challenge; not the care itself, but reaching it. This partnership with Fiji Airways changes that equation for patients, carers and our outreach teams across the islands we serve. It's a significant step forward in our mission, and one we don't take for granted."

Fiji Cancer Society Board Director, Inoke Bainimarama, said the partnership reflected a shared commitment to ensuring no one is left behind.

"This partnership speaks to something simple: no one should be left behind because of where they live. Fiji Airways is helping us take that further for our patients." Fiji Cancer Society, Chief Executive Officer, Belinda Chan.

The partnership marks the beginning of a shared commitment to strengthening support for cancer patients and families across Fiji.

Together, Fiji Airways and the Fiji Cancer Society are helping build stronger pathways to care and support, ensuring people can access the services they need, when they need them most.
